The CAASPP test measures skills and content that students learn everyday in the classroom.  Homework is a tool that teachers use to reinforce these skills and measure student progression, so working with your student on their homework is a great way to learn what kind of content may be on their test.

The link provided below gives sample questions for students to know exactly what kind of questions will be on the CAASPP. The samples illustrate the rigor and complexity of questions on the test in English Language Arts and Math.

The site also gives an interactive guide, filters that allow the user to choose subjects and grade levels, additional details, and accessibility settings. Lastly, there are practice tests accessible that give students a simulated experience of the CAASPP.

Resources are available in both English and Spanish.

Another great resource to help empower parents and families to become partners in their children’s academic success, the California Department of Education and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium have created the “Starting Smarter,” family websites for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).

Using these websites, families can become involved in their child’s progress and:

  • Learn more about the performance areas in each subject and grade.
  • See sample test questions.
  • Prepare for parent-teacher conferences with a useful downloadable guide.
  • Access high-quality resources to support learning at home.

These tests are part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress System, or better known as CAASPP, and are one element of information that helps teachers, parents, and the student understand how well the student is meeting their grade level’s expectations.
